Who We Are

TAI is an AI-based marking assistant that helps teachers save time, reduce workload, and deliver meaningful feedback. We are committed to protecting the privacy of teachers, students, and schools using our platform.

What Information We Collect

Teacher / School data

  • Teacher information: name, email address (for login, support, licensing).

  • School information: school name, role, and licence type.

Student data (minimised)

  • Identifier: first name or unique ID (used only within the school context).

  • Additional learning needs (e.g., SEND/ADHD) only if provided by the teacher.

  • Work submissions: text or images; OCR text extracted from images; feedback generated for that submission.

We do not collect student contact details, dates of birth, home addresses, or other unnecessary personal data.

Usage & technical data

  • IP address, device/browser type and version, page and feature usage, timestamps, error logs, and performance metrics—used for security, reliability, and product improvement.

How We Use Your Information

We use data to:

  • Generate AI feedback on student work and support features like target tracking and learning insights.

  • Provide and improve the Service (including reliability, security, and UX).

  • Authenticate and manage Accounts; provide support and service updates.

  • Produce anonymised or aggregated analytics to improve TAI (never to profile students individually outside your school’s use).

Login & OAuth (Google/Microsoft)

If you sign in with Google or Microsoft, we request only basic profile information (name, email) to authenticate you and associate your account with your school licence.
We do not request access to your contacts, calendar, files, or unrelated personal data.

AI & Data Usage

We use trusted AI providers (e.g., OpenAI) to generate feedback.

  • Submission data is processed securely for the sole purpose of generating feedback.

  • No training: Your data is not used by providers to train their models.

  • Data is not shared with third parties outside the platform’s core functionality.

  • Access to student content is restricted to your school’s authorised users.

Data Storage & Security

  • Data is hosted on Google Cloud Platform (or equivalent encrypted infrastructure).

  • Encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest; short-lived signed URLs for files/PDFs.

  • Access is restricted to authorised personnel under confidentiality obligations.

  • We comply with UK GDPR and applicable data protection laws.

Cookies & Similar Technologies

We use essential cookies for secure sessions, login persistence, and fraud prevention. We do not use advertising cookies. You can control cookies in your browser; some features may not work without essential cookies.

Third-Party Service Providers

We use carefully selected processors to deliver TAI, for example:

  • Infrastructure: Google Cloud

  • AI processing: OpenAI

  • Communications/support & scheduling: email services, Calendly

All vendors are required to meet appropriate security and data-protection standards and process data only under our instructions.

Retention

Default retention for feedback text and generated PDFs:

  • Basic: 30 days

  • Pro: 90 days

  • Enterprise: Custom (as agreed)

Submission files, OCR text, and audit logs are retained as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Schools can request custom retention through Enterprise or by contacting support.

Children & Student Data

TAI is designed for use by teachers and schools. Students do not create accounts directly. Any student information in TAI is entered and controlled by schools/teachers. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children outside that school-controlled context.

Your Rights

Subject to law, you (or your school, as controller) may:

  • Access, update, or correct personal data;

  • Request deletion of personal data;

  • Withdraw consent (where relied upon);

  • Object to or restrict certain processing;

  • Port data (where applicable).

To make a request, contact founder@taimarking.com. Where TAI acts as a processor for a school, we will direct requests to the school (the controller) and assist as required.

International Transfers

Your data may be processed in the UK, EEA, and other countries where our providers operate. We use appropriate safeguards (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses) to protect data transferred internationally.

Delete Your Data

Admins can delete certain data in-product. You may also email founder@taimarking.com to request deletion. We may retain limited records where required by law or to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.

Disclosure

We may disclose data:

  • to Service Providers under contract;

  • in connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset transfer (with notice);

  • to comply with law, lawful requests, or to protect rights, safety, or security.

Security

We employ industry-standard safeguards. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We encourage strong passwords, two-factor authentication where available, and careful access control within your school.
